Sean Behnam, M.D., and Ben Behnam, M.D., of Santa Monica California are excited to announce the release of their new websites. To meet the needs of Santa Monica citizens who might be in need of hair transplant, skin cancer treatment, laser procedures and/or acne treatment, Dr. Sean and Dr. Ben Behnam have recently launched their new websites focusing on these treatments. Dr. Behnams Dermatology center in Santa Monica has increasingly relied upon the cutting-edge laser technology that is used for an array of minimally invasive cosmetic skin treatments such as acne scar removal and wrinkle removal.
Much like past traditional CO2 treatments, the Fractional CO2 skin treatment increases collagen production improving the skin complexion. Fractional CO2 laser does not have the prolonged downtime associated with the traditional CO2 treatment sessions. Fractional CO2 laser therapy is an ideal solution to treat acne scars, skin damage, wrinkles, discoloration, or just improve the overall complexion of skin.
At Dr. Behnams Dermatology center, laser acne removal, laser wrinkle removal, and laser hair removal are the most popular laser treatments. Women who wish to have smooth legs and underarms without the hassle of shaving can achieve the same goals with laser hair removal treatments. The procedure is powerful enough for lasting results but delicate enough for the face. Men who dont wish to shave their beards daily can also benefit from using this cosmetic option.
While laser procedures make up an important part of Dr. Behnams practice, there are a number of other offerings, including hair transplant, available to patients. Dr. Sean Behnam is Santa Monicas prominent Hair Transplant Surgeon offering cutting edge Hair transplant surgery. Dr. Behnams patients describe it as relaxing, rejuvenating, and an artistic transformation.
Other dermatological offerings include acne treatments. Acne is an inflammatory condition of the skin that could have a significant psychological impact on the patient. There are many different forms of acne including whiteheads, red pimples, as well as cystic acne. A lot of times these acne lesions could be very tender and painful. It is very important to treat acne at an early stage in order to prevent scarring. Scarring from acne could present in many different ways including red patches that might not go away for months to years, raised lesions or more commonly depressions on the skin. The treatment of acne has changed over the last several years. With better medications, we are better able to control acne at an earlier stage and more aggressively.
The most common treatment for acne is topical creams. These creams include topical clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide, or Retin-A. Clindamycin is a topical antibiotic. It kills the bacteria on the skin and is also anti-inflammatory. It is typically combined with benzoyl peroxide in order to increase its efficacy. Retin-A is great for patients that have lot of whiteheads and blackheads. Unfortunately, Retin-A can sometimes be very irritating, thus Dr. Ben Behnam, Santa Monicas prominent dermatologist, recommends using it every other night on the face very sparingly. It is also recommended to use a moisturizing cream with Retin-A. In addition to Retin-A, Differin is another topical prescription cream that is similar to Retin-A but is used mainly in lighter skin individuals.
In addition to topical creams, there are also oral antibiotics. The traditional antibiotic that has always been used is Doxycycline. Doxycycline works great in killing the topical bacteria on the skin as well as reducing the inflammation thus reducing the pimples. They could also help in reducing the redness that persists after acne. Unfortunately, oral antibiotics do not work in everybody thus it is recommended that patients should give a fair trial to the antibiotics for 2 to 3 months. If it does not work then Dr. Ben Behnam typically switches them from Doxycycline to Minocycline or even Keflex. Bactrim can also sometimes be used.
Lasers have become very popular over the past several years for acne. Dr. Behnam, an expert in lasers used for acne and acne scarring, typically likes to combine various laser modalities in order to treat acne. Photodynamic light therapy with Levulan is a form of a laser where the Levulan chemical is applied on to the face for about 20 to 30 minutes and then the patient sits under the red light anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. This procedure is done every other week typically about 3 times. The patients could experience some redness as well as scaling after the procedure. However, the procedure helps in shrinking the oil glands and improving acne.
Red light and blue light can also be used to treat acne. Typically patients are recommended to have the procedure done 2 to 3 times per week typically alternating between the red and the blue light. In addition, photofacial lasers, known as IPL, and Vbeam can also be used to treat acne. It is typically done every 3 to 4 weeks on the face and it helps in reducing the acne lesions as well as reducing the redness.
Chemical peels may also be used to improve acne and acne scar. Glycolic peels, Jessners peels, and VI peel can be used to exfoliate the face and improve the appearance of acne. It is typically done every 4 weeks on the face. Some patients may peel depending upon the degree and strength of the chemical peel used.
Clarisonic is an electronic brush that Dr. Behnam recommends for acne patients. Patients use the electronic brush on a nightly basis, which helps to exfoliate the face, remove the dirt that plucks up the pores on the skin. After using the Clarisonic brush, patients can continue using topical prescription creams. Overall, there are many different treatments for acne ranging from topical to oral to chemical peels at best to lasers. Every patient is different and may require combination of these different modalities to help with acne scar. Dr. Ben Behnam is a Board Certified Dermatologist Practicing in Santa Monica, California that specializes in all skin diseases as well as acne.
Having a routine skin check once or twice a year is very important. The skin is the largest organ of the body and throughout the years, the skin gets exposed to the sun on a regular basis. Despite the fact that most patients think that they are never in the sun, the reality is that the 5 minutes that it takes them to walk from the parking lot into their office buildings over the years add up and could cause significant damage to their
